If you would like to enjoy some fresh air, head to Elizabeth Park. Located an easy drive away in nearby Hartford, the park opened in 1897 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Things to see and do include:
Rose Garden - The rose garden is one of the park's highlights and according to its website, the garden was established in 1904, making it the oldest municipal rose garden in the United States. It features a gazebo and more than eight hundred rose varieties, such as hybrid tea, pillar, and climber.
Sunrise Overlook - As one of the highest points in Hartford, the scenic overlook has been a community gathering place since the park opened. It's bordered by shrubs, mature trees, and provides a picturesque view of the city.
Recreation - Visitors can challenge their friends to a game of basketball, tennis, and lawn bowling.
Pond House Cafe - Known as one of the top dining destinations in Hartford, the Pond House Cafe focuses on fresh ingredients. There are herb and vegetable gardens on site and many of the menu items change with the season. The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere where guests can enjoy a relaxing meal in the dining room or on the patio in front of the fire pit.
