On the Border was born after three friends decided to share border-style food with the world. According to the restaurant's website, border-style means mesquite grilled meat, fresh ingredients, hand-pressed tortillas, and sauces made in small batches. This restaurant is known for serving authentic Mexican cuisine in a vibrant atmosphere. Owner Esaul Rodriguez grew up in a small Mexican village and at the age of sixteen with just six dollars in his pocket, he moved to Seattle to work in his uncle's Mexican restaurant. In 1991, Esaul opened the first Puerto Vallarta restaurant in Oregon where he created a place where guests could enjoy his country's culture and delicious meals made from scratch. Today, there are several locations in Connecticut, and guests can enjoy Carne Asada, Tacos Al Carbon, and Tacos Al Pastor.
Besito was founded by restaurateur John Tunney who spent years traveling in Mexico working to better understand its cuisine and people. He believes in giving back, which is why Besito has built school kitchens in San Miguel, Mexico that serve more than 1,500 meals a week to students throughout the school year. The restaurant has received several accolades including being called "excellent" by The New York Times and iron skillet tacos include Pollo, Pastor, and Mixtos.
